bio
To whom this may concern, My name is Patrick Chambers, I was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. I was raised by maternal grandparents and single mother, out of a small town of Rock Hill, South Carolina. I was enriched with morals and respect as a God Fearing man should be. I am 29 years young and has always been an over achiever with mindset of helping others and protecting my family as well as myself. I attended the Job Corp center in Morganfield, Kentucky, where I was once skipping class all because I was upset and did not understand why. My grandmother talked me into traveling miles away from home which I had to adjust to it. Jay Ayers my Union instructor of Operatives Plasterers and Cement Masonry International Association (OPCMIA LOCAL 148), mentor and still friend this day helped me cope with the adjustments I had to endure being away from home. I am grateful for the Lord placing him in my life. I definitely would not be in a position where I am now without his coaching, mentoring and with friendship. He told me to listen and learn everything he tells me in regards to concrete finishing. I would always have a job, no computer can replace that type of individual. Also, it is a great financial opportunity when achieved knowledge is acquired in that skill trade. I then became foreman over thirty other peers of my class. I was educated on grading, forming, tying steel, placement of rebar; proper slick and broom finish jobs. Once I had taken the opportunity to polish my craft, I took the chance at being a foreman at my last company where I was in charge of pouring, and finishing the entire mall, stamp and stencil color concrete. I then realized years ago from learning this course that the Lord place me where I was and we are always where he wants us to be. All because he works in the problem solving business and; introducing who needs to know whom. I then noticed the lack of respect in regards to me being a minority not in my thirties with the capability of owning my own company. That is when my passion over-whelmed me and I could go any further, I just gave up. This was the first time ever that I lost my drive. I google a few things and notice I could become a member of Metrolina Minority Construction Association, and also the Chamber of Commerce where I would register to attend various of entrepreneur opportunities and training. At that point I was able to find out what was going in Charlotte in my field through those Charlotte luncheons. I got connected with the right ones, and that is where I began my journey and developed my company A1 Concrete “changing the Carolinas one slab at a time”. I took the proper procedures to become a small business enterprise, with (NCDOT) North Carolina Department of Transportation, Minority SBE, (HUB) Historically Underutilized Businesses, (DBE) with the City of Charlotte Disadvantage Business Enterprise. These certifications that I obtained gave me the opportunity to bid on jobs that I am certified in. I am also a vendor of Allen Tate, REMAX, Lowes, Concrete Supply, Thumbtack, and Concrete Lead, just to name a few. All those goals where accomplished October of 2014. With the passion and self- driven attitude I became to have it all and it all came to a halt the first of January, 2015. I made a poor business decision where I lost my work truck. I realize that I became very anxious and careless with decisions I made in my company. My company suffered. My grandmother told me Patrick your heart is too big, you did not put God first before I would make certain moves, and I was answering for it. She left me letter before she passed. The letter stated how I was her best friend, and for me to receive what I want at heart I had to give up something. She also stated that I would lose it all before gaining which I did not understand. Family true colors appeared when death came so I distant myself from family. In the mist of my hardship, I never gave up on A1 Concrete how it will be a starter of other avenues of business I would soon obtain. This is by far the wildest year with also losing a brother to violence as well two weeks ago of this year. I know to stand still and wait because I the Lord is working with me and for me. I recently received a job offer to go too new York to better myself in getting my financial stability back. I have two sons Peyton Chambers four years old, and Paxton Chambers a year old. Where I know no matter my down fall I have to remember my boys. Finally concrete is my heart and passion. It has a lot to do with life and my meaning is that “if you do not have a firm foundation nothing will go up correctly.” It takes a special individual, to be a concrete finisher it is either for you or it is not. I have worked on mega malls and high rises in the past. No other professionals would have a job or work place until men like me finish their jobs. I have completed jobs from courthouses, airports, airport landing strips, arenas, amusement parks and prisons. If giving the opportunity I know I can change some hearts some minds, an also lives. Thanks for your time and consideration. Yours Truly, Patrick Chambers A1 Concrete God Bless
