short description

Global Green Analyzer provides current vegetation performance, anomalies and a biodiversity indicator for user defined areas and periods.

WHAT IS IT?

Global Green Analyzer is a toolkit for vegetation monitoring & analysis.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

Global Green Analyzer examines historical vegetation time series data up to the most recent data (e.g. 16 years of MODIS NDVI), derives relevant (e.g. for food security and conservation) parameters of current vegetation status and compares those to their history. Updated at regular intervals (e.g. two weeks), information about deficits, changes, and continuity of vegetation development is provided in maps and diagrams.

HOW DOES YOUR SMART M.APP SOLVE WORLD PROBLEMS?

Global Green Analyzer will generate directly usable information (as opposed to times series data) on current vegetation performance both for human food security and biodiversity. This information will support vital decisions and service developments of a myriad of users. Through its relevance and ease of availability and usability, the provided information is expected to trigger and advance services such as vegetation index based insurances for farmers or applications for Nature Reserve Managers. This way the Smart M.App will contribute to the safety and livelihoods of those who depend most on the health of the vegetation and its ecological functions. Social unrest and civil war may not least be triggered by threads to human livelihoods, while the maintenance of biodiversity is crucial to mankind. In sum, Global Green Analyzer will contribute to the security of livelihoods and the sustainability of life.

Masses of global satellite data on past and current vegetation status are waiting to be turned into an easily digestible information package. This will be useful for those who need a regional overview about the vegetation "performance" at present and in relation to the past +/- 15 years. Global Green Analyzer will provide this both from a quantitative ("how much green") and a qualitative, ecology relevant perspective.
