Asbestos is old news, right? Wrong.

Exposure to asbestos is the primary cause of the cancer mesothelioma, which kills about 43,000 people around the world every year, including 2,500 in the U.S. There is not yet a cure.

It doesn't make headline news anymore, but asbestos has left a devastating legacy wherever it's been used. The widespread use of asbestos in the 20th century in the US is still having consequences: about 2,000 – 3,000 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma each year, most of them 65+ years old.

That's why HeroX is proud to host the new $25,000 Justice for Mesothelioma Sufferers Challenge, an international contest to provide much-deserved relief and financial support for mesothelioma sufferers resulting from asbestos exposure in the US workplace.

Unlike some incentive challenges, this one isn't rocket science. We're calling on the innovation and creative problem-solving skills of the world to help reach mesothelioma sufferers to connect them with the resources they need – the money is there, they just need to connect to it.

Connecting Mesothelioma Sufferers with Financial Resources

This isn't a fundraiser – in fact, there is quite a bit of financial assistance available for asbestos-related claims of mesothelioma. The problem is getting that money to the people who need it.

In the 1980s, many companies that produced asbestos-related products were being sued, and they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The courts mandated that trust funds be set up, and today there are over $30 billion dollars in financial support available.

So what's the problem? Well, out of the estimated 27.5 million people in the US who have been exposed to asbestos, only 2.5% of them have filed for financial support! Countless others who came to the US for work have returned home for retirement and are completely unaware financial resources in the US are available to them!

This means the problem is one of connection, and that's an ideal challenge to be solved by modern technology. We're being connected more and more, whether we like it or not, so it shouldn't be too hard to make this particular connection.

You'll be helping good people win the legal compensation they need and deserve. But not only that, you'll be helping to spread awareness of asbestos and mesothelioma around the world, doing something to support sufferers everywhere.

And that's something that needs to be done soon, because many powerful, industrial countries are still using asbestos, including India, Indonesia, China, Russia, and Brazil.

Oh, and guess what? Asbestos is still legal to use in the US for some industrial products, like vinyl floor tiles, gaskets, and roof coatings. So get on it, and get on it fast.
