New Washington Heights - Community Resiliency

Community Resilience: New Washington Heights (NWH) is a historically Black neighborhood located in Greenville, SC that has faced significant challenges over the years. Our organization, Sustaining Way, has assisted NWH community leaders in establishing the neighborhood association, has built a community garden that produced over 2,000 lbs of produce last year, and has installed a new roof and energy efficient heat-pump hot water heater in their Happy Hearts Community Center. Our work is not done, however, and we will be installing a PV solar array and additional energy efficient upgrades at the community center, and upgrading the community garden to include a solar powered irrigation system.
