This Solar by the Community - for the Community model includes 3 MW of solar canopies over parking on County government property that will provide a minimum of 25% savings to LMI households and 1 MW of ground mount solar on a retired landfill that will provide half its electricity at no cost to low-income households to supplement energy assistance and the rest to low-income households at a minimum 25% savings. Workforce development also is integrated throughout the project. Howard County, Maryland will serve as the owner and developer, dramatically reducing the need for profit. Any income over loan payments and project maintenance will be used to expand community benefits.
