Challenge: Find ways to increase the energy production from solar photovoltaic infrastructure.
Eligibility
Full Description
Problem statement: Solar PV systems suffer from low efficiency (usually <20%) compared to the most efficient thermal power generation technologies (60-70%). This is partly due to inherent properties of PV modules as well as limitations of the power electronics used to convert the DC power to AC for the grid. Improvements in either of these areas or elsewhere in the system to enable higher energy capture would greatly enhance the economics and adoption of solar.
