As more people globally move to cities more energy will be needed in those locations than ever. Solutions are needed to minimize wire losses such that the maximum amount of solar energy can be used by consumers. Some solar energy systems will be located outside cities and will need more efficient means to transmit energy to population centers. Alternatively, new technologies could be developed to allow for solar energy harvesting in the urban environment through better integration with loads (buildings) and the surrounding environment with aesthetic considerations. This asks for new means to deploy solar energy in the urban environment in cost effective ways taking into considerations the unique degradation mechanisms that may be present there that would not be present on a traditional rooftop or in a field.
