Building Envelope Innovation Prize Official Rules

The official Phase 1 and Phase 2 rules document for the Building Envelope Innovation Prize - Secondary Glazing Systems updated in October 2024. The Phase 3 rules are released as draft rules and may be altered following the completion of Phase 2. 

In addition to the release of the official Phase 2 rules, the Prize Administrators made the following modifications to the Prize Background, Eligibility, Phase 1—Design Concept, and Appendices:

• Pg 7, 9 – Modified the total prize pool from “$2M” to “$2.1M.”
• Pg 10 – Updated “Key Dates,” including submission deadlines and phase openings.
• Pg 10 – Added additional eligibility language to Section 2.5: Eligibility Requirements.
• Pg 12 – Added language to Section 2.6: Eligible SGS Technologies, clarifying the appropriate baseline window to reference in Table 1. 
• Pg 13 – Modified the Phase 1—Design Concept prize pool from “$250,000” to “$350,000.”
• Pg 9, 14 – Modified the Phase 1—Design Concept winners from “up to five” to “up to seven.”
• Pg 52 – Added language to Appendix A: Baseline Window to clarify difference between Appendix A: Baseline Window and the AERC Baseline Window D.
• Pg 53 – Added Phase 3 prototype size requirements for NREL to Appendix A and Appendix B.
• Pg 53 – Modified Appendix B total number of prototypes from include “eight (8)” to “six (6)” identical prototypes.
• Pg 53 – Modified the Appendix B NREL number of prototypes from include “five (5)” to “three (3)” identical prototypes to NREL. 
• Pg 58 – Added Appendix section C.15: Definitions.
