These efforts include commitments from leading health insurers and oncology providers to make these services accessible to over 150 million Americans. Additionally, in 2024 Medicare began covering navigation services, further enhancing accessibility. Over the past few decades, projects like The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program have provided comprehensive genomic, clinical, and demographic data. These datasets enable researchers and healthcare providers to better understand cancer progression, develop targeted therapies, and tailor patient care based on genetic profiles.
In this challenge, solvers are tasked with creating or enhancing cancer patient navigation apps and services by incorporating open datasets and leveraging APIs to provide a superior navigation experience. The goal is to design solutions that significantly improve the accessibility, usability, and effectiveness of patient navigation services, particularly for underserved populations.
