This artwork began as a storyboard of post-it notes. It reflects the importance of the Moon in our past and future. 42 hrs, 10 mins and 18 secs of drawing, at the time the exact digits in years, months and days from when humans last set foot on the Moon. Viewing anti-clockwise, I thought about Apollo 17 flying over crater Eratosthenes named after the ancient Greek astronomer who estimated Earth’s diameter and distance to the Moon. Occulting this is Mars, seen through a telescope. The astronaut is Buzz Aldrin from Apollo 11, not Neil Armstrong’s reflection in his helmet, but Buzz reflecting a view of Earth. Next is NASA’s SLS rocket. 30 hrs into drawing they did a critical design review, adding racing stripes to the boosters with an orange core stage. I tried to reflect the changes without spoiling the appeal of a retro look. Orbiting the Moon is a space habitat based on Genesis II, finally on approach to this is Orion carrying astronauts to lunar orbit. Art pens 0.5mm & 0.05mm used.
