Man exploration of the moon began in the 1960’s when several exploratory manned missions landed on the moon for short periods of time. In the last decade there was confirmation of existence of water on the moon. This opened the possibility of establishing a permanent manned base on the moon. The key issue is extracting the water from the mixture of water ice and regolith. Different proposals are made to extract the water. I explored several methods of mining the water in my science fair projects. This essay was inspired by the greatest achievements of mankind in space exploration, and the opening of the new perspectives. Last year marked the 65th anniversary of the first man on the moon. A new type of spacecraft (Orion) capable to got the moon was developed and tested. We are on the threshold of active exploration and development of settlements on the moon.
