Hi I originally entered a 3/D Analysis of Transect Zones in East Austin as my project but as of last week the Planning Department has removed Transect Zones from the Code. (which I just discovered, it is now 9am Monday, 7/17). So I want to change my submission to a crowd sourced description app of locations in Austin for the visually impaired based on a mobile devices GPS. Meaning that as visually impaired person is in a location with their mobile device the GPS will call up a description of the area based on criteria to be developed later. The descriptions will be developed by volunteers that will describe an area as they walk it. Again the criteria for the description will be determined by survey and in conjunction with the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Austin.

Any volunteer will be able to provide a description and visually impaired users can vote on the best descriptions. Things like curb cuts, traffic light configurations, possible obstacles and/or just vivid descriptions of areas can be provided and the user can possibly choose different types of descriptions based on need and categories to be determined later.

This will be of benefit in terms of Health and Safety. It can be combined with fitness applications that will encourage exercise for both the volunteers and the visually impaired users. The audio can be stored on the cloud (on services like SoundCloud or others) and geo-coded with latitude and longitude from the device GPS as it is both recorded and accessed. The entire process can be automated. I will go ahead and prepare a more lengthy description and post it to my github page. But I am having difficulty editing my already existing submission. Thanks, Chuck Thomas
