The Center for Alternative, Renewable Energy, Technology, and Training (CARET²) at Clark Atlanta University (CAU), through its Atlanta Sustainable University Campus Community Initiative (ASCCI), is set to "Light-up Atlanta" by participating in the Solar District Cup Competition (SDCC).
This will form part of our Apprenticeship program for the Environmental Leadership Initiative (ELI) for our student training and Workforce development in our Dual Degree Engineering Program (DDEP). We are institutionalizing the SDCC by building on our ongoing efforts with the DOE AI enabled Climate Innovation Center Hub (AICICH) – Clean Energy Partnership Prize Award and integrating the Energyshed concept for the AUC's surrounding Vine City community. Our collaboration on Solar and Mini-Grid power generation in Africa with Tido Tech International (TTi), as well as our partnership with local organizations like Direct Invest, supports the redevelopment of the land where the Alonzo Herndon Stadium sits, along with adjacent parcels involved in a reversionary land lawsuit with the City of Atlanta.
This project envisions a dramatically decarbonized, passive and active solar-powered housing development, designed to meet ambitious smart neighborhood environmental and social performance goals. We anticipate launching the master plan this fall. Additionally, we aim to create a "Sustainable AI Living Learning Laboratory" for students at CAU, Spelman, and Morehouse College, offering hands-on opportunities in fields such as AI-enabled climate innovation, architecture, engineering, sustainability, and real estate development.
