Overview

2023 Latin American Space Challenge

The Latin American Space Challenge (LASC), hosted at the Cape Canavial area in Brazil, is the 2nd largest experimental rocket and satellite engineering competition.

Since LASC’s first edition, in 2019, where more than 350 students were present to 2022, with 1,600 students participating, the growth of the competition is visible with an increasing number of interested teams applying to the competition.

The 2023 Latin American Space Challenge will be composed of two challenges: the Rocket Challenge and the Satellite Challenge. The main objective of LASC is to maximize the teams that develop satellites to fly on its sounding rockets.

Join us by registering your Team! A Team may consist of one or a group of student members, non-students members (i.e. enthusiasts, researchers, startup teams, amateurs and hobbyists) or mixed.

Dream. Build. Launch.

Official Announcement, Master Scores and Certificates

2023 LASC Official Announcement

The Organization of the 2023 Edition of the Latin American Space Challenge expresses its deep gratitude to all participants, volunteers, sponsors, and the community involved in the second largest event on the planet in rocket and educational satellite engineering, held from August 24 to 27, 2023.

In 2023, we were able to achieve incredible milestones in contrast to the challenges of holding the event. We conducted the launch operation of 36 high-power rockets, including 10 rockets from international teams. Furthermore, the event reached an important milestone with the launch of the first two rockets using Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) high-power motors manufactured in Brazil.

We recognize the challenges faced and situations that demand improvements, such as registration, credentials, recovery windows, and the transparency of the queue for launches, and we are attentive and dedicated to improving in all aspects for future editions. We sincerely thank everyone for their understanding and apologize to those whose experiences were affected. We deeply value the feedback, patience, and engagement of everyone, which were fundamental to the realization of the event.

We are firmly committed to excellence and continuous evolution. The LASC is not just an event, but a collective journey of learning, growth, and technological innovation that we are building together in Latin America. We are committed to working tirelessly so that the next editions reflect the grandeur of our purpose and satisfy the expectations of all Rocketeers and Satelliteers.

Holding the LASC in Brazil presents a Herculean challenge, influenced not only by the lack of recognition but mainly by the lack of incentive and support from fundamental entities in the space sector. We believe that, with the support and collaboration of everyone, we can raise the level of safety, excellence, and offer increasingly memorable and enriching experiences. LASC thanks for the constructive feedback and, with it, we have developed a robust plan of 57 actions aimed at the continuous improvement of our events.

With eyes turned to the universe of infinite possibilities, the LASC continues to carry the flame of innovation, knowledge, and cooperation. Together, we will continue to launch our dreams and objectives ever higher, building a promising future for aerospace engineering in Latin America. May our journey continue to inspire, connect, and promote significant educational advances, elevating our commitment and passion beyond the Kármán Line.

We thank you again for being part of this incredible journey and look forward to seeing you in future editions.

The Latin American Space Challenge Team.
