Dr. Pramanik lived and worked in the USA and developing countries (primarily in Asia) on various water, sanitation, and environmental protection projects; as well as development and public health projects. He helped manage several key programs including an EPA funded National Nutrient Management Center on Nutrient Removal and Resource Recovery; a flagship water industry program (Leaders Innovation Forum for Technology), a World Bank funded multi-purpose dam / reservoir project in Indonesia; environmental impact and protection studies as well as master plans for various water and sewerage systems in Southeast Asia; institutional capacity building and policy development for environmental protection and public health agencies in several countries. He has specific expertise on recovery of “re-n-e-w-able” (n = nutrients, e = energy, and w = water) resources from water and wastewater treatment facilities, sludge / biosolids management and treatment, as well as reuse / reclamation projects, both in USA and abroad. He has had progressively increasing management and technical responsibilities in the United States and globally in the water industry for over almost three decades in various sectors (public, private, non-governmental, academic). He formed, led, or co-led collaborative groups of multi-disciplinary staff members and outside experts. He has successfully proposed on and managed various US and international programs and grants funded by municipal agencies and utilities, industry, government, and multi-national agencies and lending institutions, including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. Dr. Pramanik served as the Assistant Managing Director of Seatec International in Bangkok, Thailand. He moved to the USA in 1988, received his M.S. and Doctorate degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Virginia Tech. He served as the Director of Research and as Acting Managing Director for the not-for-profit Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF). WERF merged in May 2016 with the WateReuse Research Foundation as the Water Environment & Reuse Foundation (WE&RF). He became WE&RF’s Chief Innovation and Development Officer. WE&RF merged with WaterRF in 2018 and became The Water Research Foundation (WRF), representing the “one-water” research and innovation foundation for the water industry (including drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, reuse). Amit retired from WRF in May 2019 to become the Executive Director of the not-for-profit One Water Academy. Amit has more than twenty-one years of experience managing and leading a diverse and complex portfolio of collaborative research projects at three legacy research foundations in the USA on various water sector programs with national and international public health and ecosystem implications (including the nation’s largest program on nutrient removal and resource recovery) working closely with world renowned subject matter experts. Dr. Pramanik has served, or continues to serve on, several technical peer review panels, Boards, and committees including the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists, Water Environment Federation, National Science Foundation, US Environmental Protection Agency, American Society of Civil Engineers, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, Singapore Public Utilities Board, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Bank, and various other organizations / agencies. He has organized several workshops or conferences, and is frequently invited to moderate or make podium presentations at international conferences, workshops, forums, and seminars to foundation subscribers and the scientific community at-large in the U.S., Singapore, South Africa, and Australia. He has directed over 70 technical research and innovation projects while at the three water research foundations, and has co-authored numerous conference papers, peer-reviewed journal articles, and discussion papers.
