Edward Silva is the Co-Founder of Henlight – a solar powered and fully automatic lighting solution to help small-scale poultry farmers maintain consistent lay rates during the shorter days of the year. Since winning the 2013 Thought for Food Challenge, Edward and his colleagues launched into U.S. markets, gaining loads of farmer input, with plans of scaling their technology for greater access by small-holder farmers. Growing up in a large family on a small farm in California, Edward’s day job is as a program manager at the Sustainable AgTech Innovation Center at the University of California, Davis. He spends his time supporting the commercialization efforts of food and agricultural researchers hoping to move innovative ideas out into the market place. Appointed a U.S. Delegate position at the 2014 Y20 Summit, Edward carries a unique perspective on global agriculture and food security. He studied International Agricultural Development and Technology Management at the University of California, Davis.
