He currently works for the largest Affordable Housing Developer in California and in the nation, as the Energy Project Manager. He has spent the last decade working for Affordable Housing Developers ensuring the projects become certified as: Zero Net Energy by the U.S. Department of Energy; Water Sense, Energy Star and Indoor airPLUS by the Environmental Protection Agency; LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council; and Building Energy Efficiency Standards Title 24 compliant per the California Energy Commission. He specializes in energy efficiency, water conservation, renewable energy and advanced building performance. He is President of Elements of Earth and Energy, a California licensed General Building (B), Electrical (C-10), and Solar (C-46) contractor; Certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) as a Photovoltaic (PV) System Inspector and PV Installation Professional, Cert. No.: 073020-007479 and 110112-152, respectively; a Registered NABCEP PV Associate Instructor, having taught an SCE grant funded, pilot solar PV program for the Ventura County Community College District in 2019; and a former mentor and trainer in energy efficiency, water conservation, renewable energy and advance building performance for Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas Company and the Energy Upgrade California program (EUC) in Southern California from 2012-2016. EUC is supported by an alliance of the CPUC, the CEC, utilities, regional energy networks, local governments, businesses, and nonprofits to help communities meet state and local energy and climate action goals. From 2000-2005, he was the senior firm manager of a law firm in Irvine, CA in the areas of environmental justice, corporate litigation, wrongful death, wrongful termination, personal injury and contracts. From 2006-2010, he was the senior manager at a commercial insurance company (property and casualty) in Chatsworth, CA.
He sits on the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for the Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA), a local government Joint Powers Agency whose members include the County of Humboldt; the Cities of Arcata, Blue Lake, Eureka, Ferndale, Fortuna, Rio Dell, and Trinidad; and the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District. He also sits on the Offshore Wind Outreach Subcommittee, created to help develop 150 MW of floating wind turbines about 25 west of Eureka (Phase 1) and 5 GW by 2045 (Phase 2); Critical Facilities Subcommittee, to help provide emergency services in the event of a disaster, as well as facilities that provide essential services that will enable the community to recover quickly after a disaster (or PSPS event); and Humboldt’s Electric Future Subcommittee, to help provide 100% clean and renewable power by 2025, and get as much of that power as possible from local sources by 2030. The purpose of RCEA is to develop and implement sustainable energy initiatives that reduce energy demand, increase energy efficiency, and advance the use of clean, efficient and renewable resources available in the region for the benefit of the Member agencies and their constituents. The CAC supports RCEA public engagement efforts and to provide decision-making support and input to the RCEA board.
As a member representing Northern California, he is the Chair of the Job Training Organization Task Force for the Solar On Multifamily Affordable Housing (SOMAH) Program. SOMAH is the vehicle to implement AB 693, which provides financial incentives ($100 M per year until 2030) for installing PV energy systems on multifamily affordable housing serving utility and community choice aggregator customers in the territories of Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Southern California Edison Company, San Diego Gas & Electric Company, Liberty Utilities Company, PacifiCorp, and Tribal Communities. The SOMAH Program is overseen by the California Public Utilities Commission.
He is focused on protecting biodiversity, oceans and wild lands conservation, and earth’s natural resources, while sharing renewable energy technologies to protect and save our planet.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Economics at UCLA in 1994. He resides in McKinleyville, CA with his wife and family, and he is happy to be a grandfather.
