Keith Chan is Assistant Professor in the School of Social Welfare at University at Albany SUNY, a Hartford Geriatric Doctoral Fellow, and an alumnus from the CSWE Minority Fellowship Program. He focuses on the social determinants of physical and mental health for vulnerable populations across the lifespan, in particular Asian Americans, immigrants, and older adults. His secondary focus is on the application of rigorous quantitative methodologies in social work research using large-scale, population health data. Dr. Chan studies Asians because despite being the largest immigrant group since 2009, they are usually left out of the discussion regarding social justice. He studies older adults because disadvantages accumulate over the life course. His research projects have examined how Asian Americans experience differences in physical and mental health outcomes over the lifespan. Dr. Chan has extensive direct practice experience working with minority and immigrant populations, primarily in the Greater Boston area.
