“Problem solving is at the core of who I am, and innovation is the path to solutions.”
Omar Hawit is the founder of Terraform, and a architectural engineer focused on sustainable design with a specialty in building systems and resource conservation. Omar graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where he started in the field after being inspired during the Solar Decathlon competition. Since, he has gained experienced in management, planning and design, and construction administration of various project types globally. He is active with many professional organizations, including ASHRAE where he served as president of the National Capital Chapter.
Terraform provides AEC consulting, online commentary, and web-based tools in an effort to make sustainable design mainstream. The challenge of incorporating the latest technologies in the built environment comes from a lack of familiarity and the perceived risk of the unknown. Terraform aims to help bridge that gap as we strive to transform our planet to an environment that allows for life to thrive with resilience. More than environmental design, we must acknowledge socio-economic implications, community, and financial viability in order to make our society truly sustainable.
While earth has not always been a place of thriving life, “earth-like” has always had this connotation. This gives insight to a single uniform desire for our planet, and the habitable planets to come. We are well past the point at which a passive approach to climate change and humanities growing demand of resources will allow for life on earth to continue to thrive. Now, we must terraform.
