Ricky Bradford - Advocate, Community Leader, and Creative Visionary Ricky Bradford, born Roderick Reginald Bradford on June 26, 1956, is a proud father of four and a doting grandfather of seven. Hailing from the historic city of Montgomery, Alabama, Ricky's life journey has been shaped by the rich tapestry of experiences in the "Cradle of the Confederacy." Growing up in the deeply entrenched culture of the "deep south," Ricky was exposed to the harsh realities of segregation, discrimination, and prejudicial injustices. Despite these challenges, he was fortunate to have a loving great grandmother who imparted valuable life lessons—teaching him to "stand his ground" and to always "go high," principles that would later resonate globally through Michelle Obama. During his youth, Ricky engaged in various demanding jobs, instilling in him a strong desire to pursue higher education, seeking opportunities beyond the constraints of minimum wage and a limited standard of living that seemed prevalent for many blacks in Alabama. Upon completing high school, Ricky was privileged to enroll at Alabama State University, a historically black college and university (HBCU), where he excelled in both academics and athletics. Actively involved on campus, Ricky joined the Phi Eta Psi fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and a Minor in Marketing, setting the foundation for the transformative journey ahead. As a college freshman, Ricky made a life-altering choice to leave an abusive environment at home, setting out on a path of self-improvement and growth. He became an intern at Lighthouse, a social program, where he worked with troubled teens, drawing from his own experiences to provide mentorship and support. This experience became a therapeutic outlet and a calling to assist others facing similar adversities. Despite enduring challenging times, Ricky's determination, hard work, and the support of his community propelled him to complete his studies. Post-graduation, Ricky entered the world of business, initially working with individuals in vocational training programs, empowering them with motivational and job-seeking skills. Later, driven by his passion for photography, fueled by mentorship from Reginald Jenkins, he enlisted in the United States Navy, aiming to become a photographer. Over five years of dedicated service and artistic pursuits, Ricky lived in California and traveled the country, creating a solid career in marketing—specializing in Display, Special Events, and Fine Art Print for a diverse array of clients, ranging from Fortune 500 Companies to startups and individual artists. Throughout his life and career, Ricky has always championed Family, Community, Team Sports, and faith. He has found fulfillment in working with youth and various groups, leveraging these opportunities to make a meaningful difference. His unique position in society allows him to inspire and influence others positively, reflecting the belief that making a difference starts with being the difference. Ricky Bradford, with his expansive career, passion for community, and artistic vision, continues to exemplify the values of resilience, empathy, and determination, leaving an indelible mark on both the people he interacts with and the communities he serves.
