Steve Nelson started Zenman Energy in 2009. Zenman Energy is a 501(c)3 non-profit research organization with the goal of developing low cost renewable energy systems. He works with engineers from numerous Universities including: Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University, William & Mary and University of Virginia. Steve's renewable energy projects have focused on thin film parabolic reflectors from 2009-2010, evacuated solar receivers from 2010-2011, alternating current grid connected power 2013, boundary layer steam turbines from 2013-2018, automated computer sensor and control systems from 2016-2017. Ink based Thermoelectric generators from 2017-2019. Low grade heat from PET film based air pillows 2019. Low grade heat solar desalination from 2016-2020. He also teaches high school math and physics part time at Roadstead Montessori High School from 2018-present. Before working at Zenman Energy he worked as a software engineer and entrepreneur from 1997-2009. He authored the software book "Fusebox Methodology and Techniques" in 2000 and studied Electrical and Computer engineering at the University of Virginia from 1994-1996. Steve is married to Nicole Nelson, a Pharmacist at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, has two middle school children and lives in Norfolk, Virginia.
