Brief biography, After graduating from Istanbul Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey, Turgut Abacioglu has served in engineering and management fields in several companies, including NETAS, (affiliated to NORTEL Canada) Turkey's leading telecommunication engineering firm for example. He led the leadership of a team that carried out technology transfer from NORTEL Canada to NETAŞ and then appointed as the director of the newly established department. Later, in 1986, he immigrated to Canada with his family together. He has worked as an engineer, project manager, and senior management positions in Nortel, Mitel, and Intellitech (USA) companies in Canada, respectively. He completed his master's degree in Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. The TIM program was a graduate program established to support startup companies of Ottawa - at that time - referred to as "Silicon Valley North" to meet their executive's needs. We were the first graduates. Turgut Abacioglu completed his part-time postgraduate program in 2002. Turgut Abacioglu returned to Turkey in 2003. Subsequently, he served as VP responsible for business development for approximately two and a half years at the newly established Earth Power Group (www.earthpowergroup.com) renewable energy company in Jersey, Channel Island, UK as VP. Later, he served as Director of Foreign Investments at BM Holding in Ankara Turkey and led investment projects in Canada, USA, Bulgaria, and South Africa. During this period, he managed the complete acquisition process of a Wind Power Plant in Canada. Additionally, he has done the due-diligence of a startup and its poultry to energy conversation Technologies at MIT in the USA. The company was founded at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA. He then stayed in Hyderabad, India for a year and a half, where he established an energy engineering company and became a general manager and board member. He brought 15 people he hired to Turkey and provided the training of the parent company's personnel. With a relatively small investment cost made an outstanding achievement in building an efficient organization, and the preparation of company policies, the creation of a legal structure in India for supporting the parent company. After returning from India, Turgut Abacioglu has held various senior positions at Afrasia Mining & Energy A.Ş. (a British company) and has been in charge of the General Directorate of the Afrasia Company for the last one and a half years. He resigned from this position in December 2015. In late one and a half years has been providing consultancy services varies foreign and local companies. A recent one was research and strategy setting for Gulsan Holding of Turkey to start their operations in the USA. Gulsan is the supplier of P&G USA. He spent over a month in NJ, NY, PA, OH, and MO and traveled over a thousand km and met over fifteen company executives. He prepared respective documents concerning the trip, financial analysis of the strategy, other strategic papers, etc. Turgut Abacioglu is married with three children; he carries Canada and Turkish citizenship and has run six international marathons all in North America, including the NYC Marathon.
