General H2 Sector Background Information
Hydrogen Production - How much hydrogen is currently produced in your city and what are your plans for increasing hydrogen production within the next five years?
Shanghai Cluster:3.15Mt/a
In Shanghai and its surrounding areas, hydrogen production will mainly increase by two way: firstly, byproduct hydrogen; secondly, hydrogen will produced through locally distributed photovoltaic and long-distance green electricity transmission to increase hydrogen supply in other distant cities in the cluster.
eg. 1. Ningxia solar hydrogen production will increase 0.45Mt/a
2. Ordos solar & wind hydrogen production will increase 0.10Mt/a
Hydrogen Consumption - How much hydrogen is currently consumed in your city and what are your plans for increasing hydrogen consumption within the next five years?
Shanghai Cluster:currently 3.15Mt/a mainly use for industrial and small portion for transportation.
In Shanghai and surrounding areas mainly increase traffic applications, through the demonstration application of heavy trucks, logistics vehicles etc. (about 0.04Mt/a)
Promoting green chemical demonstration projects in Ordos and Ningxia increases the application of chemical industry. (about 0.8Mt/a)

- The think tank in China Hydrogen Industry . Firstly, we do hydrogen policies plan for government, central enterprises, and other relevant hydrogen companies . Secondly, Provide information sharing resources via Big-data platform for hydrogen industry, https://www.chinah2data.com/#/client/home, which build guided by the National Energy Administration. Thirdly, published the first China Hydrogen energy and Fuel cell Industry Development Report 2019 & 2020 (White paper).
- Promote industrial development. By 2019 launching <travel with hydrogen>, develop municipal partnerships between businesses and governments; by 2020, released the Standard and Evaluation of Low-Carbon Hydrogen, Clean Hydrogen and Renewable Hydrogen and published Renewable Hydrogen 100 initiative; by 2021, for stimulating communities, city officials, and relevant deployment-focused stakeholders to creatively learn, work, and solve problems together through webinars and workshops, became the leading organisations of China-Europe Hydrogen Innovation Cooperation Program, for implement the Joint Statement on The Implementation of China-EU Energy Cooperation. Under this Program, already carried out China- Europe H2 Workshop on June 2021 and 2021 China New Energy Development Forum, and co-released hydrogen report in Chinese version with international organizations such as IEA, Hydrogen Council, IRENA, NEDO.
