It is with great excitement we announce the Island of Happiness Challenge, the first in a series of sustainability initiatives planned for the Kura Kura Bali Island of Happiness.

We are sharing with you, the HeroX community, some great news about the launch at the United Nations today-- the Coastal Design Challenge was launched by the International Chamber of Commerce Secretary General John Danilovich and board member Giti Group Cherie Nursalim at the ‘Business for the SDGs’, the largest business side event at the United Nations Headquarter in New Work led by International Chambers of Commerce, GSMA, UN DESA with governments of Indonesia, Japan, Norway, Mexico, Columbia. The event is a major ICC business side event around the UN General Assembly hosted by International Chambers of Commerce, GSMA, UN DESA and the Government of Indonesia.

Kura Kura Bali aims to be an SDG Hotspot, and the first competition invites innovators like you to join the challenge and design a new type of sustainable seawall. It is a great example of how we can support the SDG through sustainable development for coastal communities.

The award will be given next year at a global event Tri Hita Karana Forum on Sustainable Development around the World Bank IMF Annual Meetings in Bali October 10-11 2018.

A little background on Kura Kura Bali:

The Kura Kura Bali Island of Happiness’ vision is to be a proving ground for inclusive communities, spiritual wellbeing, and sustainability, where new technology and best practices are applied that respect local Balinese values and at the same time reduce energy use, water consumption, waste, and lower carbon emissions etc. The eco-solutions used on the island should also have a broader application, and the new seawall design that is selected as the winner in the Coastal Design Competition can become a new standard for sustainable sea edge treatments in the world’s largest archipelago and worldwide.
