The Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest aims to inspire global developers to leverage HMS open capabilities to create innovative apps, bringing smart life services to Huawei device users in 170+ countries and regions.
The contest will be held in Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, Latin America, and China, respectively.
Huawei has set aside US$1 million from the Shining Star Program as prize money for the contest. US$200,000 will be allocated for the following award winners in each region:

1. Registration & submission:
Deadline: 18:00 on October 8, 2020(UTC+8)
(1) Sign in to HUAWEI Developers with a valid HUAWEI ID (register for a HUAWEI ID if you do not have one) and click Sign up. If you are a team leader, click New team and enter the team information. If you are a team member, click Join team and enter the name of the team you wish to join.
(2) Create your work and integrate HMS open capabilities. For details, please refer to HMS Core and AppGallery Connect.
(3) Click Submit work on the contest details page, enter the app name, ID, and description, and upload the APK and app introduction document.
2. Preliminary:
The judging panel will review the submitted works and select 20 works from each region for the public review and final stages, by October 21 (UTC+8).
3. Public review:
From October 22 to November 5, 2020, shortlisted works will be exhibited for global promotion, on both the contest official website as well as HUAWEI AppGallery. A work’s public rating score is based on its popularity (the number of downloads and votes received).
4. Final:
Each region will hold a separate final in November. The judging panel will rank the 20 shortlisted works according to a comprehensive scoring formula, in which the judging panel and public rating scores are added.
Note:
1. Attachments for submitted works must be in ZIP or RAR format, and cannot exceed 200 MB. Such attachments include the app introduction documents and APKs.
2. Submitted works must integrate HMS Core. Only the team leader’s account can be used to submit works.
Preliminary review rules:
Judges will review works on the basis of the following framework:
1. Business value: Has substantial commercial potential, with sustainable business models that indicate clear market positioning and a target user base.
2. Design, technology, and user experience: Features a distinctive visual design that incorporates user-friendly characteristics, and meets universal user requirements for a stable, responsive, broadly compatible, and privacy-conducive app.
3 Innovativeness: Comes endowed with innovative design and/or technological attributes, which represent a clear improvement over those in existing apps.
4. Social value: Benefits society at large, by improving the allocation of public services, or addressing social problems. This can involve enriching the lives of individual users or facilitating industry-wide development, and span a wide range of fields, such health care, education, transportation, the economy, and the environment.
Total preliminary score = Judging panel score (80 points) + AppGallery bonus points (10 points will be added after the app is successfully released on AppGallery) + HMS bonus points (2 points will be added for each additional integrated HMS Core kit, with a maximum of 10 available points)
Public rating rules:
Shortlisted works will be ranked according to the number of votes and downloads each receives during the exhibition period.
Public rating score = 10 x (Number of votes for a work/Number of votes for the work in first place) + 10 x (Number of downloads of a work/Number of downloads of the work in first place)
Final rating rules:
Total score = Judging panel score (80 points) + Public rating score (20 points)
