After much anticipation, the news is in. We received some truly inspiring applications for this year. Thanks to all the 47 teams who participated in the challenge to address young people’s health and wellbeing in Tanzania which which closed back in July. Our 12 semi-finalist teams had some fantastic project ideas and we enjoyed seeing these evolve at the coaching sessions hosted by Sahara Ventures. The judging panel for the final selection included representatives from Fondation Botnar, Sahara Ventures, Creaholic, UNICEF, Impact Hub, and the Women Deliver Youth Network. Together, they have decided on the following 4 finalist teams:
Finalists
- Yapili: An all-around user-centered approach to health in the form of health advice, digitalisation of medical records and online medical follow up features.
- Voice - Sauti: Geospatial data analysis and data visualisation to mitigate violence against children, girls and young women.
- Vijana Afya: A team on a mission to fight noncommunicable diseases by leveraging new media and digital technology to increase young people’s awareness.
- Dr Elsa: An AI-powered, smart health assistant that aims to improve the national state of health through affordable, inclusive, and high-quality access to health expertise.
Huge congratulations to all of you!
Each team now has the opportunity to send two members to the respective conferences, World Summit AI in Amsterdam (Netherlands) or Sahara Sparks 2018 in Dar es salaam (Tanzania). At these events, they will get the chance to mingle with experts and innovators, challenge their concepts and pitch their ideas to a jury!
Two winning teams will be announced at the end of this phase.
