They say a picture is worth a thousand words. A video is worth exponentially more. As HeroX refines and upgrades our platform capabilities, we are developing a bench of videographers to support our creation of authentic, engaging videos and we want you to join!
This two phase challenge offers a variety of prizes, including a total prize purse of $3500, the opportunity for more lucrative gig work, and the chance to help define the spirit of HeroX’s video presence in its early stages! What’s more, the first place submission in this challenge will be used to promote HeroX’s new Explainer Video.
We are interested in attracting a breadth of editing, filming, and animation talents, ranging from basic video editing skills all the way to the creation of high quality, visionary compositions. If you’re interested in joining our bench of contract videographers, then learn more at the Guidelines tab and click SOLVE THIS CHALLENGE!
Guidelines
In this challenge, we want you to show us your creativity, your ability to sync with a brand’s look and feel, and the breadth of your technical chops. In Phase 1 of this challenge, we are asking you to present a brief introduction to yourself: tell us how you like to work, what your sweet spot is in terms of film styles and project types, and lastly, show us a few examples of your past work. We want to know what makes you, YOU!
Next, the HeroX team will select up to five participants to advance to Phase 2. In Phase 2, you will be asked to create a short video or animation that introduces someone to what HeroX is all about. All Phase 2 participants will have access to the same library of assets and opportunities but are tasked with crafting their video in the style that they choose.
Successful challenge competitors will have a strong understanding of some of HeroX’s most exciting challenges. Check out some of the ones below if you’re wondering where to look!
In total, our team is interested in forming a diverse bench of creators and editors who can meet our needs for quick turnarounds, attention to detail, strong brand awareness, and a creative vision. Our video projects range from simple tasks like mining webinar recordings for snippets to creating content that supports an external partner, to more ambitious videos that summarize a challenge’s success story, and beyond.
However, we don’t expect anyone person to exemplify all these traits! So show us what you do best (whether it be editing, animating, filming, or some other skill) and we will bring the relevant work!
And finally, your success in this challenge is also about being a strong fit within the HeroX team. We are looking for people whose behavior and output reflect the HeroX Core Values. Take a look to learn more about how we operate!
Phase 1
The deadline to submit to Phase 1 is October 21, 2021. Ultimately, up to 5 competitors will be selected to participate in Phase 2.
This Phase 1 submission is your opportunity to introduce your passion and your past work to HeroX. Answer the submission form questions, tell us why you create, and explain why you want to work with HeroX. See the Submission Form below for more information.
Phase 2
Participants in Phase 2 will have four weeks total to create a short video (30-90 seconds) for the rollout of HeroX’s new Explainer Video. We are looking for something you might use to introduce someone to HeroX and what our company does.
The four weeks of Phase 2 will be broken into a few milestones
A complete, preliminary submission - Due by November 23rd, 2021
Feedback from the HeroX team - Provided by December 2nd, 2021
Necessary edits and submission of final video - Due by December 9th, 2021
Submissions for Phase 2 should reflect HeroX’s core values and the company’s brand identity. To assist with this, each Phase 2 participant will have access to the same folder of assets.
In addition to submitting your final video, you may also submit an accompanying commentary video or a short explanation that conveys your thought process while creating your submission.
Be sure to read the Official Rules section below for complete details about the video restrictions.
Prize
The purpose of this challenge is to form a bench of talented editors and creators who would be HeroX’s go-to talent whenever an opportunity arises. Thus, winners of this challenge may be invited to join the HeroX creator bench and will be offered relevant work in the future!
In addition to future work, this challenge has a total prize purse of $3500. At the end of Phase 2, up to five prize winners will be chosen, as shown in the table below.
Furthermore, since Phase 2 asks innovators to create a HeroX explainer video, winning submissions will likely be used by HeroX to promote the platform and their creators will be given due credit, should they choose to receive it.

Here's a Tip: HeroX recommends innovators plan to submit with at least a 3-hour window of time before the true deadline. Last-minute technical problems and unforeseen roadblocks have been the cause of many headaches. Don't let that be you!
We are quickly approaching the final days open for submission to the HeroX Videographer's Cut. The deadline is October 21st at 5:00 pm Eastern Time (New York/USA.)
Here are a couple of last-minute tips for a smooth entry process:
1. Begin your submission process several days before the cutoff time. This allows you to ensure everything you have been working on can be seamlessly integrated into the form.
2. Your submission will not be reviewed until you click the orange "Submit Entry" button at the top of the final review page. Please remember to do this!
3. Review the Challenge Guidelines to ensure your submission is complete. Pay particular attention to the judging criteria which will be the scorecard used to evaluate your entry.
4. Have any questions? Head over to the challenge forum and we would love to help you out.
